Last year, Sig Sauer pulled down what stands to be the largest rifle contract in 60 years by winning the Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon system award. The rifle for the NGSW, the XM7, is now available to consumers in an NFA-compliant semi-auto variant complete with a 16-inch barrel. While the Army’s rifle is chambered in a confidential new 6.8mm round, this civilian legal MCX-Spear will be offered in Sig’s new .277 Fury, which is a more or less commercial version, as well as 6.5 Creedmoor and 7.62 NATO, and we are pretty sure the latter two will be the more sought-after.
The cost will be in the $4,000 range. Not a misprint.
