Takedown .22LR rifles are just kinda cool. Minimalist designs that date back to the old Marbles Game Getter reached more widespread adoption by the time of the 1960s Armalite AR-7 and the Marlin 70 Papoose of the 1980s. Today, besides the Mountain View Arms Pack-Rifle, and Volquartsen VT2 Takedown, you can also add Henry’s rebooted AR-7 and Ruger’s 10/22 Takedown to the growing list. The newest entry to that column is the Savage A22 Takedown.
Running just 6 pounds in weight, the A22 Takedown can break apart with a simple twist and store in two roughly 18-inch long portions. The simple semi-auto use Ruger 10/22 style 10-shot rotary mags and includes onboard storage for three extra magazines in the buttstock while you can cram other small survival goodies in a hollow compartment in the pistol grip.
The cost is $479, which makes it a solid player against the other guys on the list.
